The Clear Choice for Coral Gables

On Public Safety

Public safety is the highest duty of government, and the most important quality of life issue for our city. Coral Gables residents value the safety of their families – and we thank the Coral Gables Police Department for their brave work in keeping our community safe. Under Chief Edward Hudak’s leadership, the city has experienced lower crime and has become more engaged in community policing. We can build on these efforts and continue to improve safety if we:

  • Increase the visibility of officers working for the Neighborhood Team Policing Unit to deter criminal activity and to give residents the confidence that Police is always available.

  • Support the efforts of Neighborhood Teams by increasing Neighborhood Safety Aides to add eyes and ears around our community.

  • Continue to equip the Police Department with state-of-the-art technology including CCTV cameras, Shield 12 radar displays, and software to assist predictive crime analysis.

  • Create programs like “Coffee with a Cop” where residents can meet area police officers to build relationships and open communication channels. In this way, people feel more comfortable identifying and sharing suspicious activity in their neighborhoods.

  • Work with the Coral Gables Crime Watch to increase public awareness of crime prevention services currently offered by the City. Public vigilance and education is a valuable asset in support of public safety.
